@[email protected] my one concern with this - it fails to address the issues that led up to these sort of people being involved within the admin circles of woem.men and given access to things they really should not have been given access to. Even if woem.men bans minors, what is stopping adults from continuing to use woem.men to groom remote minors? I'm not sure I'd call this a "step in the right direction" because our biggest complaint is the lax attitude in regards to grooming and how they don't treat it as seriously as the rest of us. Not attacking you, or trying to start an argument just giving my two cents of why I am not going to reverse course on this even though they went 18+. I don't think that was the right call, certainly it makes people feel a bit better but it is a band aid.

@[email protected] I'll boost this post though so that other people can see this is a real thing they did. I am not going to lie or obscure things like this. Just like when I clarified there was no connection between woem.men and alyx, and there was no way of them to know that alyx was a groomer. Multiple fedi admins trusted that provider and we all were shocked when it came out.

@puppygirlhornypost2 @woof I was gonna say - making the instance 18+ doesn't really put a stop to the problem, which is the folks in charge of the instance enabling adult-minor peer relationships and then failing repeatedly to set solid boundaries around those relationships. all this change means is that it won't be enabled on the instance anymore.

"what is stopping adults from continuing to use woem.men to groom remote minors?"
i am not well-informed on the meta but what advantage does having an account on woem.men provide to a groomer that mastodon.social or any other lax instance doesn't?

@[email protected] @[email protected] woem.men is in the center of queer fedi with a lot of vulnerable queer teenagers with abusive homes, leaving them ripe to exploitation. this is something i have experienced myself in my own grooming (i didn't want to come out to my parents as pan, so i hid my own grooming and i was scared they'd hate me and punish me for it so i kept it silent).

@YKantRachelRead @puppygirlhornypost2 @woof i don't think there's any way to, nor should it be a desirable goal to, try to police behaviour outside of an instance as an admin of an instance
as long as the instance isn't just by being there becoming some kind of nexus or conduit for enabling this behaviour that's as much as anyone can reasonably hope to do -
@[email protected] @[email protected] this is what makes this particular case upsetting, not that it was an "unheard of" on fedi but it was from an instance that was so ingrained in queer fedi and has a lot of relations with other instances. hopefully now you understand, because mastodon.social is not exactly in the middle of queer fedi like woem.men is.

@apophis @woof @puppygirlhornypost2 I feel like the point is more that ashten et al have shown repeated poor judgment, not to mention failure to reckon with their mistakes. the instance having formerly been "place that allows minors and also NSFW content" is just one symptom of that poor judgment.

@[email protected] @[email protected] @[email protected] there's also the fact i have zero confidence in any reports of grooming occurring from adults on woem.men being taken seriously considering what they've done to publicly slander victims coming forward with their abuse.

@[email protected] @[email protected] @[email protected] "it's not that bad..." like just. no. i also don't want to sit there doing moderation for them by constantly remote suspending users. i do that for mastodon.social all the time and that's easier because their shit is public i am not going to see follower only posts by groomers and it's a moderation hell.
