Like I don't even care about a public search. Just an app that keeps a searchable local cache or something for a couple of days...

@JessTheUnstill
Huh… no reason a client couldn't do that if Mastodon can't manage to do the right thing, I think? Agreed on annoying. -
@JessTheUnstill @ptoothfish Hard agree. I read something once about being about to use something like “library:<whatever >”?!? to search what you’ve seen, but (you know what’s coming)… I didn’t write it down somewhere safe, and I’ve never been able to find the tip again. ARGH. ha ha

You should also see these search operators if you click on the search box on the website interface.
Apps will vary in whether they display them or not.

@FediTips Good tip, alas, my server shows "search options not available on mastodon.nz"
-
That means your server doesn't have a certain behind-the-scenes feature called "Elasticsearch" installed.
You might want to ask your server admin if they're considering installing it? It does cost a bit extra to run, which is why not every server has it.

You aren't searchable by default on any server. You have to opt in if you want your posts to be searchable:
https://fedi.tips/how-do-i-opt-into-or-out-of-full-text-search-on-mastodon/
If you don't opt into full text search, your posts will only be searchable by hashtags.
