It's depressing to hear technical people not consider the fediverse as "a third place".

nor that a toot could be have value / could be art.

Happy to just delete all of the databases, torch the galleries, burn the books... and believe nothing of value lost....

@shlee I've been on lots of other sites, and the fediverse is by far the best and nicest place. No advertisements or algorithms directing or distracting me. I can look at what I want once I know the appropriate hashcode. I am learning so much.

@shlee anyplace that you feel welcome and comfortable enough to toot has value. I watch my wife scroll through FB and realize that even if she posted there, it would be swallowed in ads and "we think you'd like..." garbage to be noticed/heard even by family who follow.

Not to discredit other platforms, but I use what I feel comfortable with. I don't make my living for or with the clicks. Having a choice makes all the difference.
