Real talk Photos for Mac is fine as a program for images and nobody really needs more than that
-
@liamvhogan I've gradually moved all my stuff there since it got good, pretty much only use lightroom if I need to edit anything
-
@Kels_316 never give Adobe a cent is a way to live
-
Also almost nobody really *needs* a better camera than is in their phone. This I also believe despite being an insufferable camera nerd. I do not need any of that. I like to and that’s a very different thing
-
@liamvhogan The tech of recent phone cameras is amazing, but the camera in the iPhone 6+ was enough for 98% of people’s needs.
-
The average commercial or working photographer of the mid-20thC would have murdered people for the capacity and function of an iPhone 6. I do mean that literally

@liamvhogan correct. if you want better photos, you need to be a better photographer, not to drop a cool 20K on camera and lenses.
-
@alexanderdyas @liamvhogan You say that, but I just upgraded an iPhone XR to an iPhone 16 and my god! Low-light photos are easy now!
-
@liamvhogan recently for the lols and creative challenge I went out photographing with my Razr smartphone from 2007. The quality difference in picking up my iPhone SE afterwards was almost unsettling
-
@timrichards @liamvhogan My point is that most people don’t care. We’re now long past peak phone requirement.
-
@alexanderdyas @timrichards when was the last time someone said, oh, I can’t take any more pictures, I’ve run out of film/space/storage. Maybe fifteen years ago?
-
@liamvhogan @Kels_316 If you really need an alternative, I recommend Darktable. I have been using that for all of my images for years now, and it has been solid.
-
@liamvhogan @timrichards The ratio of photos taken to photos actually cherished and appreciated must be millions to one now. I’m not saying that’s a bad thing, we use our cameras differently now, but we are not taking all those photos because of the latest advances in camera technology.
-
@alexanderdyas @timrichards the most fun camera I have at the moment is an instax mini. It’s coloured pastel blue and it has a case designed for a tween. Whenever I take it out I end up taking pictures of people and giving them the picture. It’s the best.

@liamvhogan the bloke who used to repair my SLRs did repairs on the first gen digital SLRs — 1 megapixel and they cost as much as a car. Blown out of the water by even the first camera phones.
