I have seen a cyber truck drive past.

@liamvhogan @daedalus @mike AFAIK it's basically a promo car.
I cannot imagine, for the life of me, Tesla building a right-hand drive model of that car.
Plus, I'm fairly certain it does not conform to ADR anyway.

@MattHatton @liamvhogan @daedalus @mike Note that @daedalus is reporting from the USA, and they aren’t on sale in Australia.

@NewtonMark @MattHatton @daedalus @mike very good! Please inform the driver their car is shit
-
@NewtonMark @liamvhogan @daedalus @mike Yes yes, but seperately there has been one in this country - it did the rounds of some local car-adjacent media outlets.

@MattHatton @NewtonMark @daedalus @mike so. From a design point of view the Cybertruck stands in a long line of Large American Cars: that country stands out for bigness physically and metaphorically. But all other previous iterations had something else _to_ the bigness, like chromeness, or muscularity, or bulbousness, or reference to current affairs (sigh: the hummer). Some of the greatest American Cars have been Large, but the ones with big fuck off Eisenhower Jet Age Tailfins still hold up as awesome. Why couldn’t Musk make a Cadillac Eldorado?
-
@liamvhogan @NewtonMark @daedalus @mike because he's an intellectually stunted failson that never progressed past a five-year old's love of tonka trucks?
-
@MattHatton @NewtonMark @daedalus @mike but that’s the thing, isn’t it. How does a man in an aesthetic culture where there are so many really good designs of Large Cars, including yes industrial trucks and tractors, manage to make one that fails to have anything that make all the others good? It’s a kind of anti-genius

@liamvhogan @NewtonMark @daedalus @mike I would say because all he can see is "big". I mean, look at any small child's drawing of a car and then hold it up to that stupid fucking truck.
All he can see is the "big". There's a complete inability to see anything that isn't that - all that other stuff that contributes to making "big" good.
(for some definitions of good)

@MattHatton @NewtonMark @daedalus @mike [holds up a Judas Priest album cover] listen you idiot. Make this car

@liamvhogan @MattHatton @NewtonMark @daedalus @mike absolute boat. uncle's car. i was slightly terrified at first but after having failed my first attempt in a 64 valiant (for over-steering, which i didn't know was even a thing - it didn't have power anything), i quickly got the hang of having power steering and brakes.
