"Just run Linux" and "just run goats" are the exact same statement to two different groups and I can never explain why because the two groups never meet.

You can run goats on incredibly low spec everything (infrastructure, feed, land, rainfall, soil).
Troubleshooting goats is a full time job but goat people just accept that as normal.
The goat farming community is extremely welcoming but also very weird.
Goats attract leftists.
I could go on all day.

Did I mention that unlike almost all other livestock, you don't have to buy goats? You can just go into the bush and get some. It's more work than buying them, but there's no money involved. Then you could sell them for money if you wanted, no one's stopping you.
Free as in goats, not as in beer.

@coolandnormal I was shocked by the number of goats when I recently drove the Barrier Highway from Cobar to Broken Hill. I’d been told there were a lot. But there’s no way to describe how many there really are

@liamvhogan @coolandnormal I’m the overlap! I do run Linux, but as a volunteer vegetation management guy I get the suggestion “just run goats/sheep on the land you manage” every couple months

@ThermiteBeGiants @coolandnormal well if you want a few, drive a trailer up to far west NSW, have as many as you want

@liamvhogan @coolandnormal I’m trying to pare down my hobbies, not get new ones

@liamvhogan @coolandnormal 60ks from Hillston to Mt Hope on the Kidman Way last November and I easily saw 60 goats
