people seem to be selling kevlar helmets on facebook and is that is not something you can legally buy without a permit I'm pretty sure?

@Kels_316 in the [cough] 1990s one of my mates at high school went on a tour of a Navy ship that happened to be in port and in those pre-9/11 days you could climb all over it, go wherever. He pinched one of their big AA helmets and wore it to school, and we all took turns beating him around the head while he was wearing it. Good times

@liamvhogan hahaha navy ships are the best places to cop free shit.

@Kels_316 main point is. If you’re a kid and you happen to find yourself in possession of a helmet designed to protect from missile fragments. You’d better believe your mates are going to hit you with chairs

@liamvhogan
Helmets? pfft! My mate 'Springo' had tight curly hair, which was enough of an excuse to bounce things off his head.

@liamvhogan @Kels_316 reminds me of a story. Living in Hong Kong in the mid 80's. US fleet was visiting and dad knew someone on one of the frigates.
We got the unofficial tour which involved a very close inspection of the forward gun turret, including access to the current controls.
Someone hadn't done their job and I was able to move the turret towards the aircraft carrier before they twigged.

@liamvhogan @Kels_316 When I was playing “gigs” in the squatted warehouse rave scene there was an auction fundraiser night for enviro activists that had been arrested for locking on. One of the items being bid on was a cop hat that I guess had fallen off during jostling at some point. Maybe not as cool as weapons grade PPE.
