My torrent/extra crap drive has been clicky and failing sometimes, but not always. So now I'm gonna move stuff to new drive… hopefully.

I have backups local and online of my important stuff, but all the crap I accumulate doesn't have good backups, because there's just too much. Need to invest a few hundred in two duplicates of the new drive and get a whole new backup regimen going.

@mdhughes every now and again I see high capacity quality drives go for suuuuuper cheap. I usually pick up whatever’s at the ~$150/$200 mark. A couple years ago that was 16TB. The weird bit is the price does go back up to double that, so do a bit of camelcamelcamel-ing to verify your cycle.

@octothorpe Yeah, I've just moved up from 5TB to 10TB for my stuff drive, so it's really just opportunity and time for backups, not that much $.
It's kind of ridiculous how much I paid for my slow-ass 4TB (3TB) DROBO back in the day.

@mdhughes for a hot minute they were a good value. Very quickly they stopped.

@octothorpe @mdhughes I blame the hipsters and their insatiable hunger for the warm tones of spinning rust.

@Eggfreckles @mdhughes it’s more organic. It gives the bits a wider soundstage.
