Social media is in a crisis.

Social media is in a crisis. Billionaires buying it, or governments shutting it down. We have to do something -- anything! And now. Starting now.
So I'm surveying you to find out: what's the next step? What new thing must we do nownownow to Save Our Social Media? I will get thought leaders to work right on whatever thing you pick.
It starts.. today!

Oh! I should have added a fifth option: local, community-based moderation!
That would be a good thing to have in the future, too.

@rwg on this note have you checked out @wearenew_public ? (I was actually attracted enough by their listing for a Head of Product position to apply just recently.)

I follow them here but don't know much about them...

@rwg I honestly think we need institutionalized accountability mechanisms of our custodians. I love the Fediverse's community-based moderation approach, I think it works because it is a trust-based system, but to save "our Social Media" I really think we need to institutionalize the relationship of governers and their governed. (and I'm no thought leader but I'd be glad to think along wherever you want to go with this!)
