Very.. very strange issue.

A user on my forums when they login - does not show them as logged in at the top (ie the login and register are still showing active).

They can access categories that are otherwise not public, but they can't post in them or reply to topics.

I didn't beleive them for a second so I teamviewered into their computer and acccessed them and they are indeed telling the truth. They were using Google Chrome so I decided to download and install Firefox for shits and the same thing happens. Same thing happens in IE.

When I login as that user on my or any other computer it works.

Any ideas?

Sounds like a firewall is blocking websockets.

I put them in the DMZ because of that, I have a feeling it's their router or something.

Was a really strange router issue for sure. Couldn't get it to connect to sockets at all.

I did manage to bypass his router issues using the ZenMate chrome extension, though.

Their router! Yikes, that's new.

Usually we see websockets blocking on the ISP-level. We'll suggest zenmate if this happens again

Though I suppose it could be his ISP - I believe it was cox.

How often does this socket issue occurr with ISP's? I suppose it's something to worry about if you are planning on using NodeBB on a larger scale wouldn't it be?

Not very often at all. Usually in Europe (one in Germany, one in the United Kingdom). Haven't seen it happen in North America.

Still an issue, of course. We're looking into solutions in the long term.
