in phpbb there is an option to send private messages and to send email. is ther any such option in notbb? (aside from chat)

You've added a tag "email". In PHPBB you also had email notifications of new messages. These are not available in the NodeBB chat so far as I know.

@JasperNL No, you do get an email for any new chat messages received when you are offline and have this setting enabled under user settings
