Language selection at registration time

I'm in a multilingual environment. At the point of registration I'd like to give the user the option to select the language. This is prefereable to having the user login and find his/her way throught the profile settings in the default language. Is there a way to do this?

Can you add a ?lang=de to the registration page and see? The language should be set to German upon registration
