Europe’s first paper age may have started with trade imports but a separate way of producing paper developed, starting in the early thirteenth century on the Iberian Peninsula and in Italy. Writers living in Oxford, Paris or Cologne did have access to the paper flows provided by the paper trade. Paper markets were a thing around 1300. 3/3

The web balances on a knife edge. It's kept upright by impassioned people arguing for security and privacy and pushing within these organizations to make it all a reality. But it also runs on real engineering hours, sunk into projects that those same folks have managed to carve out space for within what should be entirely self interested corporate bodies.Yes there is some lopsidedness right now, but upsetting that balance within the current economic and political environment is a Very Bad Idea

also my understanding is that even if an instance has a reasonable (small) number of users, its storage requirements could still balloon a lot if those users follow a lot of people, whose posts are then mirrored on the instance's server... right? the only way to keep things truly lean would be to restrict who you can follow.

@greg well, you can't juat disable completely as otherwise it adds load on admins to find actually problematic reports and refile them manually, which can also only work for public posts.
