@SRLevine @dr2chase @sam My road bike is way too fancy for that. I had panniers on my old Cannondale touring bike but it's *so* much less comfortable than the roadie (and that's saying something) and *so* heavy and I'd have to drag it upstairs from the basement to ride it at all... so I basically haven't since 2015. When I was bike commuting I could put my work clothes in a backpack (and store the bike securely in my office); doesn't work for groceries.

From week before last, my contribution to #CarryShitOlympics.@dr2chase I really feel like if I had room in my living room for more than one bike, and didn't have to carry bikes up and down stairs all the time, I'd probably buy a cargo bike and do most of my errands on them. The most distant supermarket I regularly shop it is still only three miles away, that should be easy to do by bike, but not so much by road bike.
