Today's resignation of the German Green Party's leadership is also a consequence of months of cheap, viscous attacks against the only party that is serious about the environment. It's a consequence of deep denial of the crisis, illustrates the power of the extractivist model. The Guardian has it right: "In recent election campaigns, it often appeared to be the punchbag for parties across the spectrum. Accusations were rife that the party was trying to 'dictate' the lives of ordinary Germans."

Going forward, an annual Planetary Health Check will expand and deepen planetary boundaries science with more data and modelling. Proud to be part of that team, based at @PIK_climate.

The narrative of an ideologically motivated deindustrialization is a common trope of the far right. It jives with their general disregard for science and its warnings.
The EU's Green Deal had already been greatly watered down. Now it's again under attack, not just by this PM.

The apartment to the left of mine was number 12. The one to the right was number 14. And mine was number 12a.

Exactly a year ago today, our big update of the Planetary Boundaries Framework was published.Exactly a year ago today, our big update of the Planetary Boundaries Framework was published.
It quantified for the first time all 9 planetary boundaries, showed that 6 of 9 are currently transgressed, some substantially, and redefined and refined a few.
The paper has been downloaded a mind-blowing 473.439 times since then. That's an unbelievably large number for a scientific paper.
Let's draw the conclusions.
We need to re-stabilise .
