Damn. Can't install the @centos stream 10 #WSL image for aarch64 on my Snapdragon 850 Lenovo C630 . It's fine with the WSL1 (emulated kernel system calls) that I'm running, but using WSL2 (#HyoerV-based running a real Linux kernel) didn't seem to work - probably because the BIOS can't enable visualisation on the machine

Yuk! The @centos Stream 9/UBI9 containers come with a package "curl-minimal" installed. If you try to "dnf install curl" it conflicts. You have to use "dnf install --allowerasing curl" if you want the same setup scripts to be able to run on 9 as previous versions <sigh>

There were some hexagonal stickers at #FOSDEM so kudos to but they were definitely in the minority. The GraphQL one is crying out to be a normal hexagonal shape though The one at the top would need to be trimmed to the right size to tile properly s it's slightly larger and with rounded edges.

That awkward moment when you'd met someone at a conference in the past, you tried to email them, they tried to connect with you and message you on #linkedIn which the other party hadn't logged into. Neither of you saw and replied to the other message. Argh!

That's new - on the web interface (on Firefox/Linux) when I try to edit a post on here today the edit text box won't take focus - the keystrokes go elsewhere on the UI. Anyone else finding the same?

Quite nice that the phone signal kept working through the Eurotunnel (channel tunnel) back to the UK. Didn't really expect that but I was able to keep using my laptop online without issues. Last time I did this journey I had a book to read (Jim Whitehurst's "The Open Organisation") so didn't really notice ...

The biggest challenger this year is going to be trying to do all of the amazing things I want to after the chats at #FOSDEM. Really pleased that I managed to locate and catch up with everyone I wanted to this year too!

Side note: It is a shame that not everyone is on the #Fediverse. The demise of twitter had definitely fragmented this space, which sucks. Maybe I just need to use LinkedIn more Pretty much everyone is is still on there, even if it is "the creepiest social network"

Plus as usual lots of ideas to follow up on after some great interactions with people. Looking forward to the rest of 2025! #FOSDEM - especially in the last couple of years now I've got used to it - definitely leaves me feeling energised about things!

The fact that #FOSDEM is free to attend is also crazy. It makes the overall vibe different from other conferences. Sure you have to pay for travel and accommodation but if you have the money spare it's absolutely worth it especially if you want to meet specific people.

I've been four times, although only twice paid for by my employer at the time (one of the self-funded ones I travelled on my motorbike: 120 miles in the UK then about the same on Europe mainland to Brussels. Loved the experience)

There's nothing like #FOSDEM. Maybe if you're in a particular community that doesn't have a devroom so doesn't attract so many people it's not the same but finding people you know face to face and making new contacts is so valuable. But there's something for every open source developer.

Talk highlight? I've got to go with @Edent on the UK COVID tracing app. Even if you're not UK based it was a lesson in how government works and dealing with the abuse on Twitter. Superbly presented too.

@jwildeboer Just to be clear - you're running NextCloud locally at gone but with Hetzner for storage only? What protocol does it use for the transfer there?
I quite like the sound of something like that, especially if it can replicate it locally and to such a service

For what it's worth I've been very impressed with Hetzner's hosting which we've use for the Adoptium CI system for wire a few years now.

Also a suggestion for companies with stands at #FOSDEM ... Funky shaped stickers area all well and good but if you make them smaller and "tilable" then people are more likely to include yours on their laptop. Also probably less wasteful in the production line ... Here's a talk on the subject I saw in 2015. For some reason there aren't many this shape any more #sticker #hexagon #hexagonal
