@damon I want to love this but I do not really understand how it works. This is my mastodon account, I want to link *this* one to the other one I *already* have on bsky!

Please educate newcomers on using bridgy fed to bridge their accounts to the #Fediverse this is an excellent tool for not needing an account on bsky and #Mastodon while strengthening the open social web. -
The official Mastodon app (and most other Fediverse apps) do not collect any data about you.@mastodonmigration @FediTips @edward_jazzhands @mariuszklimczak perhaps bad English, sorry. Black and white as in either this was or that way, no way in between. I think it’s an expression in English too but I may be wrong.

The official Mastodon app (and most other Fediverse apps) do not collect any data about you.@mastodonmigration @FediTips @edward_jazzhands @mariuszklimczak sure it will sell user information, to a degree or another, to become viable financially. Users need not be screwed and the platform needs not be a surveillance one for the model to be sustainable. Assuming it *must* be is ideology. I rebut the simplistic, dismissive assumption that it’s either mastodon or doom. I’m just not one for black and white arguments.

The official Mastodon app (and most other Fediverse apps) do not collect any data about you.@mastodonmigration @FediTips @edward_jazzhands @mariuszklimczak that’s just good’ol anti capitalist sentiment. Of course money has to come from somewhere, whether that requires to “screw users” by “disrespecting” them inevitably leading to a “full-scale surveillance” setup is prophetic fear mongering.
Ideology has always been myopic.

“We’re better because they are worse, believe me”.

@securescientist Not 'owner'.@riley @girlintech @passwordsarehard4 @GossiTheDog that’s all well put and clear. The fact that this is an entirely technical perspective makes it however sound more like a pretext to bash on the Musk, than a serious legal allegation — to me. For me, one of many non-technicians, law is about proportionality and fairness. That SpaceX money should count for X’s mishaps only works if the whole objective is to punish Musk for being Musk.

I recently realized I used X only for the visibility, it was mostly self promotion within my community.I recently realized I used X only for the visibility, it was mostly self promotion within my community. On the same template of many if not almost all in my circle. Here I just say whatever for the fun of joining in in the conversation. Good I’m back on here. #mastodon #x #Community #academia

lol of the day -@riley @passwordsarehard4 @GossiTheDog I surely agree there is more room to case-by-case interpretation in EU then elsewhere. I understand the argument and I’ll leave to the lawyers any exact technical rebuttal (mine would be merely intuition driven, not actually well informed) but the issue of proportionality and fairness remains. As an EU citizen I’d question the fairness and maybe legitimacy of rule of law in EU was this enforced. Ad-hominem is bad.

lol of the day -@riley @passwordsarehard4 @GossiTheDog could not get past the paywall at least not accepting cookies, thank you for the explainer. That’s what I also imagined was the justification but to me it seems a stretch: the companies are clearly separated and hardly the revenue structure of X has anything to do with the revenue of the others. That the capital is in, sizably, one’s hand seems rather irrelevant and more of a threat than a legal consideration.
-
lol of the day -@passwordsarehard4 @riley @GossiTheDog yeah well not all authorities are authoritarian, I guess the emphasis is on that.
Interesting though what would be the legal basis for the calculation, I suppose there’s none and this is just a good headline for a rumor.
