Dear reader, I am writing to you today to share some important changes at Reuters. First, though, I’d like to thank you for being a registered user of our website and app and part of our global community. You may already know this, but we’re a bit different. We don’t do opinions, we don’t try to tell you how to think or what to make for dinner. We want you to make up your own mind. What we do is make sure you are informed about the important things happening in the world. We aim to be fast, direct, and unfiltered. For 173 years, our mission has been to bring the world to the world, without fear or favor. It is an ambitious calling that requires us to be on the ground with one of the largest global newsgathering organizations - 2,600 staff journalists globally. In more than 200 locations worldwide, we are on the front lines of conflicts, stalking the halls of government, and reporting from inside corporate boardrooms. That is why the world’s news outlets, financial institutions, companies, governments – and importantly, you – rely on us to deliver the truth. We take that responsibility very seriously.Guiding us at all times are our Trust Principles, a set of rules about objective reporting that were first established in 1941 and are overseen by an independent board of trustees. The world finds itself in a precarious moment for trusted information. Misinformation, slanted viewpoints, and unreliable news sources are on the rise, making it harder to know what's real and who to trust. We have decided to expand our work to both cover more and bring our work to more of the world. We are moving to a subscription model for our website and app. It will be one price for the world: €1 a week, billed every 4 weeks, for unlimited access to our award-winning content. We decided to do it in a Reuters-like way: global, transparent, and direct. There is a small discount for annual subscriptions, but there will be no upfront discount games, no surprise increases, and you can cancel anytime. It’s a deliberately simple plan designed to bring the world together around common facts and information. If you are an occasional user, you will find you can still read a few articles a month without hitting the paywall. There will also be important news moments where we will make sure our news is available to all. For those who are regular users, we ask for your modest financial support. We will return your investment in broader coverage, deeper investigations, more innovative products, and special subscriber experiences. We’ll also keep your front-row seat to what is actually happening in the world. We hope you will join us in this next phase of Reuters mission.Paul BascobertPresident, Reuters
