@Setok @rolle we are working on many of those issues, but they are complex, require specific knowledge and so far the Mastodon backend team is only 2 people. Things improve slowly but more resources are needed to go faster.

The early 2023 drop is a measurement artifact, but reflects reality: the numbers are Monthly Active Users, so it reflects people who checked things out in late November saying "nope". It's true that the numbers on fedidb have changed a few times, and the early 2024 vertical drop might reflect a chance in policy. There's a question about whether to count instances that are disinformation (pravda.me has a lot of users, is that a good thing?) or that are widely blocked because they allow CSAM. @rolleAlso, because it really needs to be stated as many times as it takes for people to understand this, while we were trying to get people in the areas this was happening to evacuate, we were also having to tell them to stop listening to Donald trump, because he had convinced a chunk of them that if they left, FEMA would come and steal their property to give to illegals or something.Like, this hit a republican area, and we had local Republican sheriffs and City officials having to counter this flood of crazy misinformation while we were trying to mount a hurricane response.Meanwhile, Biden and Harris were working with the Republican Governor, DeSantis, going on TV telling people to evacuate and passing along other information, which is what every other candidate in history before Trump has done.I'm not going to tell people how to vote, but everyone needs to understand that.

Bluesky enthusiasts are stating that Bluesky has ”plans” to make ATProto universal and transfer it to W3C or the like. Well, there is no evidence that Bluesky wants to give up control or the protocol is going to be widely adopted after 5 years of development so forgive me being sceptical.
