@inthehands I don't know if I'll ever _not_ bring up Mr. Fred Rogers as an example of positive masculinity in these discussions, that was one American man who was not afraid of what dipshit "bros" thought of him as he was very very publicly kind and caring, which can be the hardest, toughest, up-hill fight for social humans. Too many adopt a masculinity of abuse and cowardly violence because of fear of what others might think of them. Itd be sad if it it wasn't destructive

@danderson I dunno, maybe not what you are looking for and not helpful, but I've been having good luck with Fedora Silverblue using rpm-ostree and flatpak. The ability to layer on RPMs from Fedora-compatible repos but have a clear distinction from the base system has helped keep things "clean". I'm still not totally used to tools having so much their own environments with flatpak, it'd be nice to figure out how to get vscodium to edit, with dev tools, inside a toolbox container but it works OK

@FritzAdalis @ryanc @catsalad I really appreciated the attempt in Win8-10 to refactor all the brittle quirky control panels and wizards, which were sprinkled everywhere and frozen in amber, with a more thoughtfully organized and maintained settings app. Refactoring conhost/MS Terminal, including OpenSSH, WSL/WSA, winget and the Store update infrastructure, all made Windows a more useful and reliable OS, at least coming from Linux/MacOS UNIX. All squandered for ads/AI BS/scammy store apps.

@gordotango @BlackAzizAnansi that's exactly what an HOA is, a shadow government which doesn't have to achieve the same standards of ethics that the regular government holds itself accountable to. They were created to get around civil rights protections that even a shit government would hold itself accountable to, they are intentionally worse.
