@Edent Reminding me once again of a blog post - perhaps by @andysc - I can never remember - that suggests after a certain period, it's cheaper to replace your fridge than keep it. The theory being it gets more expensive to run the longer you keep it, due to losing pressure, and slack door magnets leaking heat in (or cold out ) thus turning the compressor on more often, costing more. I think the general idea was replace every 10 years *hand-wave*. Can't remember.

@andypiper Yo. There's "Get Together" made by @mhall119 (but is currently inaccessible from the UK for some weird reason I don't understand). I have used it in the past. It's open source, so you can host your own. Sadly it's a little outdated/unmaintained. I spun up an instance to test it, and it works for me.

@funnelfiasco @mattdm I have a cheapo HDMI display (which is marketed as a portable second laptop screen, or game console display.) That might do the trick as an extra display, one could put the video call window on that monitor, so you would be able to look directly at the camera and see people..

@mattdm I have been lusting after this kind of device for a decade, and never committed. I really should, at some point, because I think it would make quite a difference, and prevent my eyes from going all over the place

@jorge Did you ever play conkers as a kid? Was a very common autumnal staple around here. We'd grab the horse chestnuts and string them up. There were always rumours that people would soak them in something to make them harder, but I don't know anyone who did that.
