A year later, search as a service for fedi servers of all sizes is forming up. This is very welcome.

Now with more and more #instances upgraded to version 4.2.0 of #Mastodon, you can compare full text #search on different ones: Having multiple accounts, I did – and yes, the differences are rather big. -
Thinking about #SubClub, I belatedly realize it's a huge miss from Mastodon, Misskey and others that they don't have a built-in, Stripe powered "supersub" mode for delivering long post updates to paid followers.Thinking about #SubClub, I belatedly realize it's a huge miss from Mastodon, Misskey and others that they don't have a built-in, Stripe powered "supersub" mode for delivering long post updates to paid followers.
The reason it's a huge miss is that a mere 4-8% commission on the subs would create a revenue model for the server hosts, too. Instead, those same people have to use ko-fi or Patreon now.

Am I missing something obvious with the negative responses to #SubClub? I've seen complaints about people being opposed to artists and other creators making any money from their work, ever, is it just more of that?@stefan
There's just a lot of people whose primary mode is to react negatively to everything. It'd be one thing to have negative reaction to change, but a bunch also react the same way to status quo, as well. The only way I have been able to understand it is as a form of mental disorder, perhaps PTSD induced.

Seems to me like Bluesky's custom feeds have died under the onslaught of the Brazilians. Over half of the app is unresponsive/empty for me.Seems to me like Bluesky's custom feeds have died under the onslaught of the Brazilians. Over half of the app is unresponsive/empty for me.

There is a whiff of something concerning in that #Durov arrest referred to a something "cryptology" and #Brazil twitter ban also referred to VPN use while EU is reviving #ChatControl again. There is a whiff of something concerning in that #Durov arrest referred to a something "cryptology" and #Brazil twitter ban also referred to VPN use while EU is reviving #ChatControl again. But while the latter is trying to enable a surveillance state, the first two are about platforms refusing to follow rule of law and endangering people while doing so. This is a good explainer of the first, by @Noupside

Brazil used to be *huge* for the social game I worked on, Habbo.Brazil used to be *huge* for the social game I worked on, Habbo. Brazil was the singular reason why Google's Orkut had any traffic whatsoever. Brazil is a major cultural factor for any social media, never mind its traffic. And Elon is committing a suicide-by-court there as I write this. What a genius.

Elon is test running riots in England just like Zuck was test running the Brexit election of summer 2016.Elon is test running riots in England just like Zuck was test running the Brexit election of summer 2016. But as despicable as X is (and it is, you should leave), Zuck's closure of CrowdTangle to reduce disinformation campaign transparency over the Meta properties is more impactful. All these platforms and their billionaire owners are clear and present dangers to democracy.

Would be remiss to not mention that Hometown, which is a "light" Mastodon fork supports the Article post type and has no issues rendering long form.

Hi all!@snarfed.org
Thank you for your work! Federated social media needs to bridge protocol borders. -

This is exactly why I've been arguing that there should be a (number of) search index and API-only services which provide this capability to individual servers. Well, that, and the related point that requiring each server to redundantly index the fedi to provide a search for their users is rather wasteful and expensive.
