@wdlindsy Well I probably haven't seen as many posts on it as you have. I haven't really noticed any posts "celebrating" the murder but I've seen several that express a "not surprising" attitude. And I do find it not surprising. Not to be celebrated though. The U.S. has built a sick, despicable system to monetize sick people. @TheEffekt

"The tragic, brutal murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson has elicited contempt for the unfettered greed and capitalism of health insurance companies.@wdlindsy Maybe he means empathy. Understanding that I can't speak for anyone else, but I'm not feeling much empathy for someone who led a company that refuses healthcare treatments to up to 30% of his customers for the sake of profit. That stat came from a graph comparing insurance companies' levels of denied care, which I saw here but didn't save. @TheEffekt

I'm listening to audiobook The Coming of the Third Reich by Richard J.I'm listening to audiobook The Coming of the Third Reich by Richard J. Evans and the first chapters so far have covered in depth a range of (for lack of a better word) pressures on/in German society in the years between the turn of the 20th Century, mostly following WWI, years before the rise of Hitler, and boy, are there a ton of echoes of all this in the U.S. today. Whew. Not good. Ominous. #history

Just reaching out to other black folks on here to see if this is a common thing?@Jaden3 I'm white and was a hiring manager (I'm now retired) in DOD. I had no minority quotas, I was never told by HR that I needed to hire a minority. Nevertheless, in a mostly white male organization, it was my way of giving "the man" the finger to choose a minority or woman candidate whenever possible, if I had candidates that met the necessary qualifications. And I will tell you that the majority of the resumes I received for any job opening were from white men who had almost zero qualifications but felt they could name-drop their way into the job. I had no time for that sh*t on my team. My point is, sometimes a minority or woman is hired for a position over a white man, not because there's a quota, but because the hiring manager has already had seen white men who didn't take the position seriously. And never, ever doubt that a lot of unqualified people have applied for that job so it may be quite possible that yours is simply the most qualified resume in the stack.

Charles Pierce notes that a massive recall of ground beef was issued Friday due to E.@wdlindsy Huh. When I went there before I posted, only one sample came up and it has the paywall in it. I'm seeing that happen more frequently. Thanks for the links though. I was using archive.is but sometimes use archive.ph when it's down.

For those of us foreseeing that "things are going to get very bad," Sherrilynn Ifill offers some valuable pragmatic tips about surviving@wdlindsy One might say "hyperlocal" aid organizing. I follow some people who are doing various neighborhood efforts like community fridges and pantries. Learning how to do hydroponic gardening. Stuff like that. When you don't know how unstable the future is it's good to be prepared with like-minded people nearby.

For those of us foreseeing that "things are going to get very bad," Sherrilynn Ifill offers some valuable pragmatic tips about surviving@wdlindsy When my mom was little they pretty much lived on catfish they caught and potatoes. All this can easily happen again and remember, this is Bannon's entire plan. I don't know how well that meshes with the Heritage nuts but I can tell one thing, I think we're gonna see.

For those of us foreseeing that "things are going to get very bad," Sherrilynn Ifill offers some valuable pragmatic tips about surviving@wdlindsy I have to hope that crashing the banks would be against the oligarchs' interests...as to our fixed incomes, I don't trust the Republicans at all.

For those of us foreseeing that "things are going to get very bad," Sherrilynn Ifill offers some valuable pragmatic tips about surviving@wdlindsy I'm worried about some sudden banking crash and the Trump gov rescinding FDIC coverage so that some oligarchs can profit in some inscrutable way
