Has anyone here ever run #video projections, #VJ stuff from a #Linux machine, and if so what did you use?

Tbh I’m fine using the apps I have, music discovery is the hardest thing - but mostly for the reason that the vast majority of music listeners are using platforms that lock DIY artists out

There are no real “one size fits all” answers, nothing that good tech alone can solve. We just have to keep advocating for more open access to discovering and curating new music — in my opinion anyways

We already have Owncast for live streaming… Love that! And Peertube

That’s so lovely Jamie! Proves how good it can be, when platforms aren’t trying to squeeze money out of us DIY artists — and every human who might like our art…

I do think Masto inherited some “dark patterns” from corpo sites, so it is still addictive here: impacts whether we feel like listening to music when we scroll. And I think follow/following isn’t great for mental health / natural community feeling

I feel like I start from scratch on each platform either way. It’s like, all these platforms are so adversarial with each other, and actively hide your posts if you have links to anywhere else on the internet!

Plus they’re designed for all dopamine hits being contained JUST within their apps. So I just don’t think most people ever “click out” anyway…

Yeah I think any “one platform for everything” type idea would have to be perfect for every need. At the moment musicians’ needs and wants are pretty diverse.

Definitely we are fatigued with the fact there’s no good solution for music discovery that everyone uses, so we do have to be kinda everywhere at once

I had to cut it down to just musician's homepages or the thing would be eleventy million pages long! And I just really want more musicians to have websites. Some amazing musician friends have stopped doing it or just have their domain linked to some corpo platform
