    Gas Prices
  • K kelso

$4.12 on the island where I live....
I get gas on the mainland, but still only about 35-45 cents cheaper, so gas is still crazy high right now.

If you run Webmin, ConfigServerFirewall (CSF) has a module for administrating it through there. Its a wonderful little firewall and logfie scanner to help protect your servers.

  • What operating system do you use?
  • K kelso

I easily migrate between OSX on my work laptop, to Windows 7 on my work pc, windows 8 on my home laptop and Ubuntu on another machine at home. I am thinking about checking Linux Mint out thogh.

  • [Solved] mark_all_read
  • K kelso

    apparently not 🙂

  • [Solved] mark_all_read
  • K kelso

Doesnt a force reload (control-f5/cmd-r) essentially do that for the page you're viewing?

  • [Solved] mark_all_read
  • K kelso

No matter which computer im using, every time I visit the site and I goto mark all read, its the "mark_all_read" button that does nothing. Upon force-refreshing, I get the proper button with the dropdown and all is well... Except the next time I visit the site, its back to the old behavior. This happens on my macbook using chrome, as well as my desktop using chrome as well. Anyone else experience this?

  • Anybody want to try atom.io?
  • K kelso

I wouldnt mind checking it out.. Although it will be hard to beat Coda...

  • Very.. very strange issue.
  • K kelso

Sounds like a firewall is blocking websockets.

  • [nodebb-plugin-shoutbox] Shoutbox plugin

How do I obtain the new version? I attempting to 'npm install nodebb-plugin-shoutbox' again, but nothing has changed.

Ahh, I like where this is going. I have custom CSS applied to certain groups right now on one of my other sites.. its a great feature.

  • Password Complexity Requirements?
  • K kelso

Verified that I was able to create an account with 'password' as the password. Perhaps a password meter and a basic set of rules to disallow extremely easy passwords.

  • What happened to search?
  • K kelso

It's been removed from core. The idea is to have it more modular and give the user a choice on what search they want, if they even want one.

From what I understand, it will be back in the form of a plugin shortly. A lot of major code work going on at the moment as they prepare for 0.4.0

  • Error: SELF_SIGNED_CERT_IN_CHAIN
  • K kelso

    0.0.0.0:80

Try setting that to your public IP so its listening on an actual device. Im not sure if 0.0.0.0 means listening on all interfaces or not like you'd expect from other linux/unix applications.

  • Themes not loading properly.
  • K kelso

Make sure to restart your nodebb, and then also force a reload of cache in your browser. In Chrome on windows its control-f5, and on mac it would be command-shift-r.

As @julian suggested, add a trailing / to both your proxypaths in your apache config.

  • Apache Proxy Problem Help Please 😄
  • K kelso

@xCausxn I wrote the guide for Apache, but like you, this kinda made me think about switching to nginx and I did. Using php-fpm for handling php requests, and the passthrough works like a charm.

The main thing about apache is that most distros have apache 2.2.x which doesnt include the proper proxy tunnel module for web sockets. You either need 2.4.x, or backport the module to 2.2.x which is in the guide.

Since moving to nginx though, I question why I didnt do it sooner..

  • Private messaging
  • K kelso

Certainly was not meant in a negative way. I'm sure you know, that communication is important in a busy community. Options are a necessity!

  • Private messaging
  • K kelso

I think an option is good. I prefer instant emails for chat notifications as well as replies to watched / subscribed topics. The idea is to keep the conversation going, and if you have to wait 24 hours to re-engage those who dont constantly check the forums, that seems silly 🙂
