@sia Why though? I don't think we need to do that to reflect on where/why/how white women have failed ourselves. It's a conversation we can have without trying to make ourselves feel better about it by saying "See look at them, they also suck!" And I can assume you don't actually feel better about this, and that the pain of this election is still very raw right now. But I do think it's important to find space for talking about the groups we overlap in (white and woman) and our complicities.

Every.@sia @mekkaokereke I think it's more than fair to call out specifically white women when every election we seek out Black women and women of color to save us.

If I get to 4k followers on Mastodon I'll tell you my #1 engineering tip that will make you stand out from every other engineer.Just kidding, here is the tip: Look at it. Look at the thing. Do you know how many engineers I've worked with that send a code review request, and when I look at the actual thing, it's completely broken. Just look at it please. Actual senior engineers. Did you load it locally? Did you load the web page? Please, please look at the thing before you send it.
Also, help people out, when THEY send a code review, YOU be the one that looks at it.

I still miss shoutboxes.@ireneista Yeah, that's basically it! I guess you wouldn't need the web mentions part. Just a specific post that is the "shoutbox post" and then you'd get all the replies to that specific post? hmmmmmmm

I still miss shoutboxes.I wonder if you could do like, a fediverse shoutbox of some sort. Or, just like, replies to a Mastodon post (like people use via webmentions for showing post "comments"). That could probably help with spam somewhat.

I still miss shoutboxes. Also, sorry, but if you are nearly 40 like I am or 40+ you are obliged to make one of these posts every now and then.

I still miss shoutboxes. This was sort of the thing I was hoping for when all the no-code things popped up. But somewhere amongst all of that, we took away the creative parts. Yes you can deploy a site with no code, but it's pre-canned templates and you don't learn how to customize them. Or they are AI generated and just a shit-show. The "magic" which was basic HTML, CSS and maybe a little scripting is all tucked away now as if it should be hands-off.

I still miss shoutboxes.I'm not super sure that would work anymore what with spam and all (even my site which is usually in the single thousands of page views a day would probably get a fair bit of spam). But it was part of this time I really romanticize now where you would specifically visit your online friends in their own little space and see what they were up to. It felt much more personal than going to their social media profile because they literally MADE the space you're visiting.

I still miss shoutboxes.I still miss shoutboxes. Your friends would come to your site, because theyre really the only ones that went there, and could just leave you a little message. They were kind of like guestbooks, but meant to be more conversational. Little special places on the web for yourself and your friends was a neat time.

Mastodon should steal the "starter pack" thing from Bsky. I don't know how that would work in the interface, and given that people would be spread out across instances, but it's a nice way to fill a quiet timeline.Mastodon should steal the "starter pack" thing from Bsky. I've heard quite a few folks say they feel lost after first joining, or that their timeline feels dead. I lucked out that i moved over when all of those tools allowed me to easily find a lot of folks to start with. But I'm not sure if they work as well now?

With the influx of people over to bluesky, at least amongst my corner of the internet in the web dev world, I hope it doesn't get too "Father.I think they're just literally not using this platform and that's the simple reason why. There are plenty of React users here that happily use it for their day job (that was me, though I wanted to escape lol) but they're not over here shilling for it like weirdos.

I don't know why/how that doesn't happen over here (which I'm glad for!)

Fucking. Duh.
Like, what is this response.
Even if I make a sweeping argument of *a lot* of roles could benefit, I still don't need to be reminded. I do, in fact, live on this planet with you.

The people that think collaboration can't happen remotely are also the ones who only get their ideas implemented by being loudly wrong and basically a bully. They need face to face interaction because how else will they float around, sprinkling their ...These same people always neglect thinking about people that have disability accomodations that require them to WFH which says a whole lot else about the kind of people they are and who they deem as worthy collaborators.
