Two random things happened at work today...@[email protected] Luckily with this one, I'm not affected in the slightest, people seem to like, forget that GDB even exists lol. I get to just watch from afar

First is kind of annoying... Fedora apparently demoted someone from "proven packager" (aka privilege to do whatever they want with whatever package) to regular packager (aka, only do that to packages they maintain). I figured the email was clear enough, "the person has used this privilege to make maintainers' lives harder by doing things to their packages without ever informing them that something was done", but suddenly everyone is yelling that they need more transparency, and that he was a good guy, and they never had any problems.....
Really if you think fedi drama is bad, you should see that thread lmao.
And the second is that my company provides a "thank you" budget, that anyone can use to thank people who have gone above and beyond when interacting. And I got 3 of them in a row as I wake up! they had really sweet messages on them, I'm all giggly today because of it lol -
as a sysadmin this so much.@[email protected] @[email protected] windows does this specifically to obfuscate the errors so that hackers get as little info as possible and have a harder time creating attacks. Which isn't good for the end user but it's at least a reason...

context:context:
along with working on GDB I also am the owner of an internal tool for a few teams, and I sent a form to the users asking for feedback about it.
The tool is divided in 2 parts, a Jira Dashboard, and a (mostly legacy) website.
I asked how often the participants used the dashboard and the website... so far, my favorite response is "there is a website?" which I almost set up as a possible response -
the best part about sharkey reactions is how you can do some unhinged react to some post, and there's nothing the OP can do about it (for joke reasons, harrassing is not fun)@[email protected] huh... that's whack
I can imagine why is sensitive, cause like "stamping a post with the bad take seal", but writing it in a reply isn't even that much more effort, so it doesn't really stop that harassment. Yay for poorly implemented and only-half-thought-out features -

ok, unrelated to my current small breakage of GDB, in my third day trying to get GDB to compile on AIX for....Second attempt at compiling mpfr. The first worked but couldn't be installed, and because mpfr is compiled and placed in src/.lib instead of src/lib I can't use it without installing
these 3 days were not a total waste of time

I"m now having to compile mpfr and hope to GOD it just works, because the instructions i got to compile gdb were EXTENSIVE and I have none of those for mpfr

PSA: Most internet users do not know that there is a distiction between an email provider and an email client.@[email protected] @[email protected] I guess you could go with something entirely non-tech like a ttrpg table or a sports group
We're all playing with the same written rules and so we can expect to talk to each other in a cohesive way, but how you are allowed or expected to behave is different, and what each club/table has to offer is different. What this doesn't get is moderation between instances, ie defederating, but I think it's a start
