Minutes from 3 October 2024 WG Meeting -
Pit Bulls on Meth is one hell of a band name, though.RE: https://atomicpoet.org/objects/01b80f5f-f3a2-4d05-9079-be8c419d277c@atomicpoet Reminds me of one the boys in my unit came up with: Apes on Xanax!

Been trying to get Modded Fallout 4 working on the Steam Deck. It’s more complicated than it needs to be.I’m happy to report that I finally got this to work! Turns out, Game Mode on the Steam Deck really doesn’t like it if you try to load a separate version of Proton that lives inside of a Flatpak application.
Now, the only thing to do is debug what mods are preventing the game from loading one of my saves…

Been trying to get Modded Fallout 4 working on the Steam Deck. It’s more complicated than it needs to be.I guess I could try adding the game to Steam, and then forcing that to use Steam’s own native Proton in Game Mode?
The thing that makes me slightly uncomfortable is that I’ve already gone though all this effort to put things together. Switching prefixes means I might have to move everything around to get it to work.
One of these days, I’ll actually play this damn game

Been trying to get Modded Fallout 4 working on the Steam Deck. It’s more complicated than it needs to be.Basically: I have a heavily modded version that works great on my desktop, but due to reasons, it won’t launch in Game Mode. It’s a downgraded GOG copy, because the Steam version forces you to stay on Next Gen, and some of my mods won’t work there. Steam will try to update it every time you run the game.
Okay.
So, after doing an elaborate dance with Heroic Launcher, winetricks, and Proton GE, I can get the game to work in Desktop Mode. But, it falls to detect controller input. Trying to launch it through Game Mode leads to the game and modding tool to never launch, I guess because I’m using external Proton, which is a no-no?
It’s just confounding. I feel like I’m so close to having a playable game, but something is out of alignment.

Burnout has been super bad this week.@jenniferplusplus Thank you ️
I think right now, it’s the feeling of being on a never-ending treadmill, and falling behind on everything. It’s the realization that you’re in the hole and have to make changes, but lacking the energy or willpower to do much.
It’s an open question of “how do you summon the energy to do things, when you also need to slow down and rest?”

Burnout has been super bad this week.Burnout has been super bad this week. Every day, when I get home from school, I basically do a few basic chores, and then spend all of my time doing nothing. I stay up late into the night modding games and staring into a void.
I’m behind on homework, and putting off important things I need to do. I feel like a zombie.

Me: "I'm tired and feel like crap today. I should take a sick day and just sleep in."> Gets dressed and drives all the way to school Why am I like this?@deathkitten The frustrating thing is that my school is also super stingy about missing classes. If you miss like three of them during a semester without a valid excuse (injury or death), you get dropped from the course without a refund.
It’s not worth it, sadly.

It’s even obvious that Matt doesn’t think his employees fully support his pointless crusade against WP Engine while burning down WordPress and Automattic in the process.@chikorita157 @javi Imagine having so much privilege that you can willfully destroy your own company, project, and reputation, and you hardly see any repercussions most of the time.
Dude just gives me bad vibes all around.

Me: "I'm tired and feel like crap today. I should take a sick day and just sleep in."> Gets dressed and drives all the way to school Why am I like this?@deathkitten Sadly, the military (and work culture) have basically conditioned me to never ever take a day off, unless I’m dying.
But yes, cuddling with my loved ones sounds wonderful.

Tumblr is absolutely my favorite social media site that I never use.@quillmatiq @stefan My wife loves Tumblr, and usually collects posts to share with me at the end of the day. There’s a lot of amazing stuff there, it just requires skillful digging.
Might be the easiest way to get her on the Fediverse, tbh.

Tumblr is absolutely my favorite social media site that I never use.@quillmatiq @stefan One thing to keep in mind is that there’s a high possibility Tumblr’s backend will be transitioned to WordPress.
Tumblr will move all of its blogs to WordPress — and you might not even notice
Tumblr is moving all of its blogs to WordPress. Automattic, the parent company of Tumblr and WordPress, says the move will make it easier to ship features across both platforms.
The Verge (www.theverge.com)
My thinking is that they’ll likely leverage the ActivityPub plugin to enable Fediverse integration, and maybe release a self-hostable Tumblr dashboard as a plugin for the dashboard.

So many people in this world go through life believing that they’re either more or less than human. In their own eyes, they are either a product of divinity, or the scum of the Earth. So many people in this world go through life believing that they’re either more or less than human. My digital art just keeps getting weirder. No generative AI, just me torturing Public Domain images in GIMP for hours.@deathkitten You can do some super weird stuff with it. I have a million and one criticisms of GIMP, but the filters, effects, and layer settings can lead to some really interesting stuff.
Roughly about 99% of the thumbnails We Distribute has is stuff I’ve made through this process. The other 1% is me just shrugging and slapping something together in PhotoPea or Canva because I’m either mobile, or don’t have the spoons.

The Fediverse is part of the solution to the polycrisis.@evan Qualified no, borderline maybe. It might solve some things! Having an open way to cross-communicate from anywhere definitely could help in subverting censorship or suppression of information.
However, the question of “can technology solve human problems?” sometimes gives me pause. It can definitely make a lot of things less bad, but I’m not entirely sure it can be used to stop a thermonuclear war from happening, once underway. It can work around things like natural disasters, but can’t prevent most of them.
Widespread mass poverty and regional destabilization, though, I’m not sure it can do much unless mutual aid networks can be established. Even then, it takes a backseat to things like working phones and radio comms.
