The issue seems to be that the approach of scaling up AI models by feeding them more data and compute is plateauing especially since they’ve gobbled up almost all the easily accessible data on the planet.
AI researchers will need to find new techniques for the next jump in AI capabilities.

The big surprise of the election is that the Kamala Harris is set to lose the popular vote. The big surprise of the election is that the Kamala Harris is set to lose the popular vote.
In looking at the vote counts across both elections, it seems the key reason for the loss is less that more people voted for Trump than last time but instead that a lot of Democratic voters sat out the election.
This is the enthusiasm gap and one that grew because Kamala failed to land a message that capitalized on the initial burst of energy around her candidacy.

It’s now clear that there is little value in blockchains and crypto as a technology platform. Crypto has found a niche as a form of speculative assets for financial risk takers and a tool for moving money around while avoiding regulation (e.g. ransomware payments, foreign remittances, etc).

The rise of standing desks is a result of what I like to csll “wet streets cause rain” style analysis.
Because people who sit around a lot are usually unfit, people decided the fix was standing around a lot instead of physical activity.

Over time I’ve learned many adults are missing thinking skills that are assumed to be common sense.• Introspection or self reflection where you regularly examine your actions and motivations to improve self awareness and personsl growth.
• Focusing on things you can control instead of worrying about things you can’t.All of the above skills help you to better at navigating the world and interacting with others in your personal and professional life. While they may seem like common sense, they are far from commonly practiced by most people.

• Practicing Empathy or being able to see things from other people’s perspective.
• Understanding cause and effect. If you take certain actions they will cause others to react in often predictable ways.
• Thinking in probabilities instead of assuming things are guaranteed to happen or definitely won’t. You can often increase or decrease the likelihood of events but not guarantee them -

Both companies argue that recent Supreme Court rulings prevent the FCC from unilaterally imposing fines and instead a jury trial is required.
Also the FCC’s two current Republican oppose fines as they disagree that the FCC has jurisdiction over privacy violations.
It’s getting increasingly harder for govt agencies to penalize misbehavior.
Verizon, AT&T tell courts: FCC can’t punish us for selling user location data
Carriers claim location data isn’t protected, say they have right to jury trial.

I saw a post where women were advised to stock up on birth control before the new administration starts and it reminds me of the thing I hated the most about 2017 - 2020.It is truly disappointing that the majority of voters chose a return to a government that deliberately and wantonly harmed millions of people over rhe belief that a person with “concepts of a plan” will make their grocery bills lower and gas prices cheaper.

Instead of a government that helped people, we had a government which randomly would choose some set of people to inflict harm and inconvenience. Travel bans, bans from serving in the military, actions against Planned Parenthood and Title X, changes in asylum policies, etc.
It hurts to realize voters chose a return to this.

However the outpouring of online support made me change my mind.
It turns out the online support was either a bubble or fleeting as she had a clear enthusiasm gap among Democratic voters in the actual election.

The biggest swings being people 18-44, Asian and Hispanic voters. Harris only saw slight gains in college educated women and people 65+ from Biden’s win in 2020 but it’s so slight it might as well be within a margin of error.
It turns out I’ve been living in a bubble the past few years while everyone else was like “Trump? Why not give him another try?”
