i have already posted at length about this but i find the advice to “Arm Trans People” or advising them to get a gun not only feircely irresponsible, in that having this messaging in the zeitgeist gives cops a good excuse to just shoot to kill any trans people on sight for being *potentially* armed.but it’s also *tactically* naive, as guns are *ranged* weapons that require a lot of training to be effective, while most or maybe all violent attacks on trans people are at close range. At close range, guns are just as likely to be used to injure or kill you as much as the attacker if not moreso. (unless you will the above prophesy to become true i guess and then hey, good luck using a gun to defend against cops)The “Arm Trans People Slogan” implies an easy solution that would let one skip past normal self defense and field combat training, treating this specific one use tool as a magical protective talisman when at best that idea gives a false sense of security. at worse it puts you in far more direct physical danger. especially in the hands of a population that let’s just say… does have an endemic mental health problem
