@401matthall @jalefkowit While we're at it, can we go back to physical buttons in cars? Touch screens do not belong in vehicles!

“How often do you push the power button anyway?” is the “you’re holding the phone wrong” of 2024 -
The fact that a rapist, a financial fraudster, an outright bigot, a brutal misogynist & a literal walking/talking fascist, like Trump, is still on US presidential tickets - really shows the entire international community how fucked up #American #politi...@PhoenixSerenity And 30+ time convicted felon. Let's not leave that part out.
I still don't understand how a convicted felon can run for office while other convicted felons can not even vote.
Make it make sense!

I have an AMD GPU, and this certainly sounds a lot like the problems I've been having ever since the upgrade to Ubuntu 24.10 (weird graphical glitches and lockups in the boot process).@jalefkowit I wonder if there are any differences in how Ubuntu and Mint handle the GPU. There shouldn't be, but that doesn't mean anything.
I bring this up, because I bought an AMD GPU specifically because I run into problems with Nvidia on Linux far too often.
I know this is not especially helpful in a granular sense, but it may not be AMD that's the issue so much as perhaps that specific GPU? I'm running a 6800M with no issues if that helps you determine the difference in any way.

As a rule, I hate shaky-cam, but I give the Star Trek franchise a pass. It doesn't take away from the scenes it is in, and it's never used to hide anything more than their limited budgets. As a rule, I hate shaky-cam, but I give the Star Trek franchise a pass. "At least 135 people have been rescued from the Great American Assisted Living Facility in Tampa, where first responders on Thursday morning found residents in water up to their waists, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office."@jalefkowit I hate that I mistakenly thought this was an old post. This is not the first time this has happened in Florida, and sadly, it probably won't be the last.
One would think such facilities would have evacuation plans

Hurricanes never bother downtown Alpena, Michigan@jalefkowit That's what the residents of Asheville thought.
You just wait. One of these days the Mississippi River will flood on an unprecedented scale, then a 200mph hurricane will hit Texas, and though it'll weaken across land, there will be so much warm standing water to fuel it that it will reach Michigan while retaining hurricane status.
Funny thing is, 25 years ago I would have thought such a hypothetical to be completely asinine. Now, it's actually within the realm of possibility.
On the plus side, if you did prepare for hurricanes, you'd be prepared for most blizzards too, so I guess that's a win?

In retrospect, it's kind of wild that the two biggest developments in CPU technology over the last 20 years were "use much less power, for mobile" and "use much more power, for AI", and Intel managed to miss both of them@jalefkowit That is a legendary burn.
