Email digest for announcements?

Currently the email digest only works for the topics a user is subscribed to. This is great but I think there are times where the admin wants to announce something to all members.

One way I am envisioning this is, for example anything that gets posted to "announcements" automatically gets included in the daily digest, so whenever the admin has something to announce, they can simply write a well written post and publish, and it will be included in the next day's email digest for everyone.

Does it already work this way? If not, how do most people deal with this type of stituation? (I don't think having an email announcement feature is something extremely out of the ordinary)

Not an important feature but it's very common to all forum softwares. I think that it should be included.
