^ this. If a theme does not have the widget area defined then they have to go somewhere. Putting them in the Draft zone is where they go.

Opening the menu from the hamburger does slide the page over to make room for the menu, but no menu is visible.

On iphone i can't even open that menu, they don't give a love about mobile optimization i think @julian

It's a new theme, and I know from first-hand experience it's a lot of work to test on every platform. They'll get it. -
