@julian: Yes, it depends. In the case of NodeBB they must have been quite good lines from what I've seen, and with excellent speed and performance. Thanks for your good work.
NodeBB install without terminal access
-
Anyone know how to install NodeBB without having terminal access to the host?
-
Simple answer is unfortunately, no.
However, there are some options for you.
First of all you could try http://www.heroku.com (and consult our guide at http://community.nodebb.org/topic/148/looking-to-run-your-nodebb-on-heroku). Heroku is free for a really basic setup, ie. you probably won't be able to have a big enough community before realizing that you'll need to upgrade on their plans and end up paying real $$. But for development, it would be free and totally worth trying.
If you have a small budget, you could try digital ocean. The basic plan which should be enough to run a pretty small community would run you about $5 a month. Consult http://burnaftercompiling.com/nodebb/setting-up-a-nodebb-forum-for-dummies/ for a really simple installation guide.
Lastly, if you aren't a developer type and would like to just run your NodeBB forum in the cloud, completely hassle free, with a bunch of dedicated dev's on your toes looking after your forum :P... hit http://nodebb.org right away. Send us an email and we'll hook you up with beta access.
Cheers
