Is a Xenforo-like Resource Manager possible?
-
Does this do anything other than just show some topics that would be considered resources? Three choices from plugins that already exist, custom CMS plugin and just build a quick template with links to resources, featured topics plugin (if it still works) put the widget in the sidebar or the cms plugin. Or, what I'd do, put them in a category called resources. I'm not really familiar with the backend of the resources addon for xenforo though. Only seen the front end, and I've only seen it link to topics.

Can you explain what it is? I haven't personally used Xenforo before

Nothing special. A set of threads with downloads arranged in such a manner that it will be listed as download items. You can see the example here
It is in demand with many sites and is a hot add on with Xenforo.

Late to the party. Well, a decade late. But kind of on topic as I was doing a search for an XFRM style plug-in for NodeBB.
But XFRM (XenForo Resource Manager) is well more than set of threads arranged to be listed as downloaded items.
It is just what the tin says. A resource manager that can link to files stored on other sites (URL), direct download (uploaded directly to the server XFRM is running on) and fileless resources (think a text & image FAQ/How-To).It is in heavy use on my Astrophotography site for resources related to that niche.
For most sites, it is overkill but if you are going to be hosting files (or resources) for download/access it is a good way of doing it as you can categorize them easily.

@Spideynn off topic, but on topic of you just having set up a nodebb instance. Which email service did you use (for nodebb to send out emails?)
As this is, and has been, my biggest challenge with nodebb; Im wondering how all the new joiners to Nodebb are getting on with that aspect, and which mail client they are using?! -

They allow you to send via SMTP on the free plan but you cannot use POP3/IMAP to check email unless you are on a paid tier, so you have to log into their web based interface to check mail. But for what I needed it for, which is only sending out emails it works out great.
