RSS feed, whats the reason

Ok so when I click undread posts, it gives me a list
POST TITLE
In category
....
If I click Post title I see the post
If I click the category just underneath, I see the post, but it also has the grey RSS icon

If anyone clicks on that its an XML file of data, not much use to users.
So why is it there?

@eveh you copy that RSS link (I believe those links are specific to your user profile...), then paste that link into your RSS feeder application...

so, you can directly see new replies on your RSS feeder application without visiting the forum.

I use "Thunderbird" for RSS feeds... and use this RSS feed link of one of our main forum topics where users post their complaints, technical problems in the forum etc.
