@dHeinemann 517 pages of documentation were a bit daunting; it seems to defaults to XFS or BTRFS, neither supporting RAID 5 or 6. But it looks like it supports double parity with ZFS in at least two ways, so it seems potentially useable for me. The biggest limit seems to be stuffing two parity drives & two cache SSDs into an enclosure with older (and smaller) data drives. If it works across multiple enclosures then it looks like a good choice despite being closed source.

Does anyone have strong opinions about #Unraid vs.Does anyone have strong opinions about #Unraid vs. #TrueNAS? I'm a bit unhappy with most of the software-based #RAID systems I've tried, and a lot of the hardware-based RAID systems either don't support different sized drive pools, don't support drives above or below a certain size, limit you to only certain RAID levels, or don't allow you to grow the array without a full rebuild.
There are no silver bullets. Still, what offers the best set of options, and do either work as a #Thunderbolt #DAS?
