@aud I don't think nodeinfo is an explicit part of AP, but I'd have to check it's one of those things like webfinger where it's sort of expected, iirc

setting silly stats was a really incredibly effective way to get crawlers to start respecting robots.txt: https://github.com/superseriousbusiness/gotosocial/pull/3718#issuecomment-2629328372 -

setting silly stats was a really incredibly effective way to get crawlers to start respecting robots.txt: https://github.com/superseriousbusiness/gotosocial/pull/3718#issuecomment-2629328372anyway it's very interesting how in these comments the onus is being put on GtS to behave itself, but not on the crawlers to crawl more politely or to simply keep the list of GtS instances but don't store or serve the stats about posts and stuff; nevermind that perhaps the whole fundamental assumption that mapping the fediverse is good, is actually wrong

setting silly stats was a really incredibly effective way to get crawlers to start respecting robots.txt: https://github.com/superseriousbusiness/gotosocial/pull/3718#issuecomment-2629328372specifically I think we at gts are not very interested in making software for the sorts of people who get very heated about the respectability of baffling crawlers with random stats but I have to think more about that

setting silly stats was a really incredibly effective way to get crawlers to start respecting robots.txt: https://github.com/superseriousbusiness/gotosocial/pull/3718#issuecomment-2629328372some of the beseeching in this issue is really leaning a lot on concepts like "network respectability" which aren't explained or unpacked in any meaningful way: https://github.com/superseriousbusiness/gotosocial/issues/3723 I find it really interesting how gts setting some randomized stats to baffle crawlers is highlighting some long-standing tensions here between people who want a "respectable network" and people who just want to talk shit with their friends. It's also very interesting how the "respectable network" / "honor system" side of the argument has to paper over the fact that robots.txt is being ignored, which is pretty ironic given that disobeying robots.txt is explicitly breaking some rules

Happy Black History Month (in the U.S.) to my fellow Black folks of the fedi@so_treu glad you're still here doing what you do ️

finally set up hard blocks for ai crawlers on one of my servers and we are now serving a thousand 403's a minute@jonny I'm considering if we should hardcode some UA blocks in GtS as well. We already follow most of the "recommended" stuff to politely stop crawling but I doubt politeness will keep cutting the mustard.

ok, but has anyone installed gotosocial in minecraft?@rune pain
-
ok, but has anyone installed gotosocial in minecraft?@rune that would be kind of interesting since gts itself has a wasm runtime inside it... Wasm in wasm??

money really just ruins people huhi need well-paid tech gays to realize that if your place in the capitalist system is conditional on you playing nice and being respectable and disowning radicals and blending in with the other capitalism-enjoyers, then you actually don't have any place in the system at all and trying to find a place in it will only alienate and ultimately destroy you while not even giving you the satisfaction of pushing back on your own terms; moreover if you keep shitting down on your former comrades from your rung on the ladder, then don't be surprised if they're not there to catch you when you inevitably slip off

money really just ruins people huhbasically hachyderm.io :')

money really just ruins people huhdoesn't even have to be that much money; i'm thinking of tech gays who are fairly well off and start playing respectability politics and fielding defenses of capitalism and individual capitalists and stuff like that; fucking wankers

"Look how many users we have!If I woke up one day and someone told me "here, moderate this 200k person instance all by yourself, don't worry, photo sharing is just less toxic than other forms of social media so you'll be fine", I would immediately shut down sign-ups and drop everything else I was working on in order to get moderators on board ASAP, and start fixing the reports functionality and moderation tools. I would be fucking panicking and having cold sweats about the potential harms that could arise, and feeling sick in my stomach about all the harms that were probably already occurring on my watch. I would not be fucking gloating about it. The utter fecklessness of this "it'll sort itself out" attitude is revolting to me.
