I doubt you would be able to run both. It depends greatly on how many users you have, but 512 MB would barely be enough for NodeBB. Why not use DigitalOcean? It is not possible for users to make categories now.

You also can't run Windows on Digital Ocean droplets, so I'm not sure where your hosting is. If you are using Digital Ocean, the link julian provided should have all of the steps you need.
I'd suggest getting familiar with the shell, since that is a pretty big part of maintaining any web application (not just NodeBB).

I didn't watch that specific video, but you can definitely use a custom domain for NodeBB. Most people are using custom domains.

They have a free tier for pretty low number of hits on their API (1000 / month). You can also self-deploy if you don't want to host it yourself.
I use their hosted option on my forum, it has been great.

Being an admin gives you access to the admin control panel. Moderate permissions give people what they would need in each category.
Global Mods are designed to be global, their permissions supersede what is given in the permissions section. You should make a "Forum Mods" group if you want your moderators to be able to be unable to edit some categories.

Let me know if this warrants another thread, this is what someone on my forum said: "In mobile chrome the on screen keyboard covers up the text field and the send button doesn’t work."
