@FediTips @squads @iwein Depending on the poster to select what language the post is in means it's pretty much useless from the get-go. There really should be language detection involved; trigrams make this easy.

I'm far less religious about spaces-versus-tabs than I used to be overall, but if you're ever collaborating with other Python devs, they're going to *demand* 4-space indents. It's just the standard at this point, a sort of "we all need to drive on the same side of the road" thing.

@mahryekuh I think the situation with large corporations taking from the open-source community and giving nothing back has become very plain to see. Yes, I'd probably be hurting adoption of my projects to some degree (particularly by businesses), but I'm usually writing that code for myself, first and foremost.

@mahryekuh I've historically used the MIT license if permitted by my dependencies, and the dependency license otherwise (typically GPL).

I'm considering moving to the GPL as my default.

@mahryekuh @jcrabapple "Just pick mastodon.social for now" would be good advice to most people coming in, IMHO. I've seen lots of analysis paralysis due to the server choice alone.

Mastodon's language filtering for posts doesn't work (at least on mastodon.social). I end up having to mute anyone posting in anything other than English to keep my timeline readable, which is far from ideal when they might be posting in both English and another language.
