Starting a new thread to document the delightful things I am finding out about joining the tech team at Monterey Bay Aquarium. -
As a music lover the Bay Area is really great.@skinnylatte have you heard Sarah Hanahan on sax? She plays a lot at Smalls Live/Mezzrow in NY and I’ve listened to the recorded sessions.

Most of the time when I call or text my parents, they show me some delicious food they're eating, or some cool train they're waiting for. Today, they showed me both (waiting for a train in Taiwan and eating delicious food)@skinnylatte I feel like a glutton in Spirited Away every time I’m in Taiwan. Although the night markets have become terrible tourist magnets and my wife has decided to stay away from any well known ones. Lots of little ones here and there that are only locals.

I’m jealous every day. They are back to NZ in a week and there will probably be an eating frenzy in these final days.

Something in japan that looks like a bookshelf but is really all the different types of Japanese curry roux@skinnylatte drooling!
I remember the days when even House Curry used lard and actual flour. The texture was so different from now (aka better IMO)
Japanese cafes often have their own secret recipe curry and those are also fun to explore.

TIL that there is a site that ranks apple varieties@skinnylatte I saw that and it was so awesome. I’m growing Misi Luki bananas because I love the little short, plump, creamy bananas that my mother-in-law buys in Taiwan and that I’ve eaten in Thailand.

TIL that there is a site that ranks apple varieties@skinnylatte here in New Zealand I’ve worked on acquiring some less common varieties such as Merton Russet, Cox’s Orange, Matakana Golden Russet - a variety that evidently used to be grown in my specific micro region, and also my childhood favorite of Jonathan. All my trees are very young so will be some years before I can enjoy them. But it is a mission and a journey.

TIL that there is a site that ranks apple varieties@skinnylatte years ago when I lived in the Bay Area we went to Filoli when they had a heritage apple (and some pears) tasting and exhibit. They have been collecting, planting and growing all kinds of “lost” varieties. It was fascinating, delicious and quite disconcerting to realize how many varieties of apples there are - and how many we’ve lost.
