Trump is possibly the first modern politician whose ENTIRE platform is based on nothing more than his own bigotry, insecurities and greed.

"This election has made me more afraid for the future of the United States than any previous election. Not simply because Trump is running, but because the fact that heโs runningโand doing as well as he isโafter a disastrous four years in office, revea... -

In a thread yesterday, I noted that after WWII, many Americans asked how it was possible that large numbers of Germans could hear Hitler's dangerous, crazy ranting targeting minority communities and lusting after blood and still support him.The problem with the word 'fascism' is that for many the word is too abstract for them. The connection to possible consequences - mass incarcerations (without trial), torture, executions, widespread victimisation and violence - remain remote and unreal, and at worst, something that only happens to other people. It couldn't happen here. Could it?

Khizr Khan, father of 27-year-old Army Captain Humayun Khan, who was awarded a Bronze star following his death in 2004 and is buried at Arlington National Cemetery, speaks about Trump's obscene stunt of staging a political photo-op in the cemetery:Put it all together and what you have is a man who wants to utilise and mobilise armed forces who he considers losers to serve his own ends.
If you are serving in the military think about that for a moment.
Trump thinks you're a loser but he would have no hesitation demanding you serve him, potentially by killing your fellow citizens. But if you die in the process, he won't care one bit.

Elliot Kirschner offers a sobering meditation on a powerful image from the DNC, Todd Heisler's photo of Kamala Harris' great-niece Amara Ajagu watching her great-aunt accept the presidential nomination:Unfortunately for Donald Trump, Kamala Harris DOES know her place - and it's well above Donald Trump.

"These extremists want to take us back, but we are not going back. We are not going back!I still believe whole-heartedly that Kamala Harris is not only the right choice for democrats in this election, but the right person for America at this point in history. I have consistently said as such since the moment Biden stepped aside.
But I also believe if your party & your politics is not robust enough to at least listen to differing opinions (& hopefully consider them), you have a serious problem.
After years of lies, Not Going Back has to also mean honesty in ALL things.

"These extremists want to take us back, but we are not going back. We are not going back! There is one down-side to this, and the DNC sometimes got dangerously close to it. Deifying anyone (as your saviour) risks taking you into that very world of cult-like behaviour that you oppose.
It is possibly for this one reason alone that I believe that the DNC made a big mistake not allowing opponents to the genocide to have a voice.
If you truly believe in democracy you have to trust everyone in your party to have a voice and to use that voice responsibly.
This did not happen.

Heather Cox Richardson puts her finger on a major theme running through commentary on the DNC this morning:This has been one of the best things about the campaign from day 1, that support has been grassroots driven.
And nicely ironic that it is mainstream media who are making themselves redundant and obsolete.
The birth of the internet radically transformed traditional news media from being an industry where people actually researched and printed news, into little more than an opinion amplifier and echo-chamber where facts went out the window. And news is being democratized.

Heather Cox Richardson puts her finger on a major theme running through commentary on the DNC this morning: -
"Tonight, on the 104th anniversary of the ratification of the Nineteenth Amendment, delegates are gathered in Chicago, Illinois, for the Democratic National Convention, where they will celebrate Harrisโs nomination for the presidency.@wdlindsy
And this is just one example from many, many thousands - people with more courage than Trump has ever shown, and working harder to provide for their families than he ever has. -
Meanwhile, speaking of policy, of which Trump has none, J.D.Politicians really should stop devising policy based on dystopian sci-fi novels.
