The oldest kid tells me he’s been hanging out in the park after school with his mates…
…doing Duolingo??!
WTF is up with kids these days? 🤯

The user experience of #git totally makes sense if you remember that it was designed by and for Linux kernel developers.
Good morning.
USians, please don’t fuck it up. Fingers crossed
Right. With the U.S. election season heading towards its climax, we almost forgot to start the war on Christmas!
Don't forget to block and report any social media posts claiming Nov 1 is an acceptable time to start Christmas season. The war on Christmas starts now. Christmas has already began its first incursions and we can't let it gain any more ground.

Sie wird vermutlich nur bedingt beeindruckt sein - sie kommt nämlich aus Paris. Das wird hart...
If all those businesses work together on a set of FOSS tools, then each one would have less work to do on maintenance and development.
They could focus on customer service, and on building their own specific extensions (which could flow back into the shared code base, natch)
@SmudgeTheInsultCat This is basically the entire public discourse around wind power here in Bavaria.
Interestingly, at the same time, everyone’s busy slapping solar panels on anything that will hold them up. Not out of any ideological conviction, but because they know they’ll be saving money.
@raf @kissane One thing I love about businesses like omg.lol is that there can be lots of them, and they don’t necessarily have to compete with each other.
Someone could set up a copy called serious.business. Give it a blue-gray color scheme, market it towards professionals.
Then someone else can do the same thing in French, and in German. They’d all take roughly zero customers away from omg.lol.
We don’t need to be stuck with the “big tech monopolists” model! The tools are *right there*!
@kissane 100% this!
If I can’t have a co-op, then at least give me a small company made of real people, who will charge a reasonable price to provide the services they promised.
No hockey-stick growth bullshit. Just service in exchange for money.
@jalefkowit Business development on a geological timescale
@jalefkowit @neil @conniptions I’m also in the Debian camp. It’s minimally harder than Ubuntu to set up. But once that’s done, I’ve found Debian Stable to be reassuringly boring.
I can just get on with my work, rather than constantly messing with the system.
(Caveat: it’s clearly not the right choice for people who always want the latest version of things.)
@skinnylatte Rice cookers are wonderful!
We’ve had one for over a decade. They’re a bit unusual here in Germany; but every Asian person who has seen our kitchen was delighted
Ours is a larger model, topping out at around 2kg of rice. It’s sooo practical!

My follower number has now been pretty stable for roughly two years.
That’s a good indication that the amount of people who will put up with my bullshit is finite.
Ah, Saturday 🤩
