Mastodon.social reportedly has spam/moderation problems.
I recently saw some myself.
But aren't there simple remedies? Like:
(a) it could eliminate its open membership to keep its size from getting any more unmanageable
and
(b) it could display HUGE ads for other instances very early during its onboarding process (approved by those instances, at no cost to them).
After all, isn't #decentralization its main goal? Especially according to its nonprofit group donors?

@KuJoe Many thanks to KuJoe and the Mindly.Social gang forโamong other thingsโmaintaining a place with seemingly much less spam and vacuous promotional content than mastodon.social itself. I roughly estimate there's a difference, in spam and vacuous promotional content, of at least an order of magnitude between the two instances. And I mean on a per capita basis. I observed this when poking around mastodon.social's original pages, today. I guess mastodon.social has grown too big to control.
