Part of the problem is the way Mastodon displays profiles. Unless they click through and actually go to the profile on your server, they would never know you are not on Mastodon.

Some people abuse them. They quote someone and then mock them for what they said.
Since it is a quote, the original author can no longer edit it and they can't delete it either.
This mocking is probably the biggest issue, but there are other groups that don't like it too. For example, people can no longer say something and deny saying it later since it was quoted. And people who say things they probably should not say don't like being quoted either. -
The Social Web Foundation website is not only its own ActivityPub actor, but (streams) recognises and lists it as a group.It would make sense that it is listed as its own platform or group. It probably is a custom implementation that takes their blog posts and sends it out via ActivityPub.
