Mini pro idles at around the same 1.2/1.3W with nothing connected. With Studio display + 1GbE Ethernet it’s right around 5.5W as I’m writing this post. Watching a video on the YouTube gets it up to 7-12W. Adding a CPU heavy workload to the above that maxes out all the cores and spins up the fans gets it up to 65W.

Holy low idle power usage Batman. M4 non pro.

@octothorpe no way, Mini is way too loud under load.

One interesting thing I haven't seen mentioned is that the M4 Mini Pro SSD is faster at comparable sizes compared to the M4 Mini. Turns out the modules are pretty different between the two. Also interesting the Pro uses cooling system uses copper vs aluminum on the regular (similar to Studio Ultra vs Max).

There's some GBs showing up for the 8+4 Mini pro (base model) and oof, my M1 Ultra is crying.

I feel like reviewers should start calling out Apple's standard one year warranty as a "The Bad”. Given how premium their devices are, 3 years should be the standard warranty.

Specially bad when you consider Apple's out of warranty procedure is normally give us your old machine and buy a refurb at standard refurb pricing.

As expected (well by me anyways) the M4 Pro 10/4 is pretty evenly matched with the M2 Ultra in multi core workloads.

Fortunately for my wallet the clang subtest is still better in Ultra land, so I can wait until next year to pony up big bucks on a new Mac.

@octothorpe they did do diff dies for the M3 Max right? So they could here too, or the M4 Max might have the connector on it. Don't care, just want it to ship!

@octothorpe I haven't seen anything but to me that's just an implementation detail. They did that for the M1/M2, doesn't mean they need it for the M4.

I’m on a repeating cycle of build clean, change, build analyze this morning and really wishing the M4 Ultra was getting announced today.

The $200 bump only gets you 2 extra efficiency cores, which meh. But it does give you two extra Thunderbolt ports, Ethernet and much better external display options.

Probably should trash these.

My office cleanup continues. Just realized that the Mini 2018 box is quite a bit smaller than the M1/M2 Mini boxes. This seems really un-Apple like.

Working on cleaning up my office (going to be a many months long project). Had to break out this nightmare of a contraption to wipe some old drives (don't think there's anything sensitive on them, but better safe than sorry). T3->T2->FW800->FW400->ATA.

Probably should've just used a hammer.
