@mastodonmigration @KamalaHarrisWin I agree that they are doing this to distract and change the subject, but it can't just be ignored, because ethnic Haitians in Springfield are under attack, as is the city manager, and they can't have live meetings about it because they are being inundated with bomb threats. So I'm afraid we can't just say "ignore this distraction". If we ignore it, I'm afraid someone is going to be killed.

This Washington Post does a good job here of covering Musk's torrent of lies about elections. (Of course they are too timid to use the word "lie"...)@dangillmor @lauren Yes, I remember that piece. It was good, but as you said, it didn't work. If they look here, they'll say we're too small and we are mostly lefties who scold the newbies, it's an anti-advertising platform and they need ad money to survive, and they need to drive traffic because they're in danger of going broke. I think the idea to sell them on is the need to take back control, without trying to dictate just how they do it.

I believe AI is going to kill us all if it is not eradicated and I have to spend a lot of time explaining that no, I don't mean it's going to become superintelligent https://fediscience.org/@ct_bergstrom/113028760435643985@glyph @mcc What will happen, as others have pointed out, is that if the "AI" is trained to duplicate the decisions that are currently being made, any unconscious biases will become explicit. The AI will wind up with explicit weights that penalize people for having a name associated with the discriminated-against group, and that happens because it's trained to match the human decision makers as closely as possible. This kind of thing happens even when the developers try to prevent it, because they'll take out obvious, explicit bias but leave in the correlations because they can't find them all.

This Washington Post does a good job here of covering Musk's torrent of lies about elections. (Of course they are too timid to use the word "lie"...)@dangillmor @lauren They could evolve towards one. Here's one idea: the news starts out on their own sites. Provide RSS feeds, with a mechanism that posts stories from that feed to Threads, Mastodon, BlueSky, and X, with some delay (so, to get the hottest news other journalists would need to subscribe to RSS feeds or use the favored server, perhaps a fediverse server since no billionaire can censor it). The institution could also choose, or not, to operate its own fediverse server or use someone else's. They still get the reach provided by X, but Elon Musk is no longer in a position to silence them.

"While I understand and agree with those who say that no child should be mocked for being proud of their dad, I also think that Gus Walz’s neurodivergence does matter here. Republican partisanship, hate, and misogyny in this instance were also linked t...@wdlindsy Perhaps. But the GOP is trapped in a cult of toxic masculinity and they would have gone after a neurotypical son who was overcome by the emotion of the moment in the same way (or even deny that boys and men who express emotions other than anger can be considered typical).
