Hey Fediverse friends.@evan True commitment to the fediverse is when you get hit by a car, break 9 ribs and then post to your followers!
I hope you have a fast recovery. Really happy to hear you’re getting out out of the hospital next week.

Had an amazing time on the Dot Social podcast a few weeks back chatting with @Flipboard Founder/CEO @mmccue.We went deep on the future of the web, and why ActivityPub today feels remarkably similar to the evolution of web standards in the late 90sFull ...@johnonolan @flipboard @mmccue Totally. This was an incredibly rich discussion. I’m a huge believer in what John and Ghost are building and I’m excited to collaborate with them as a member of team fediverse. P.s. I’m replying from Flipboard and love that people on both Mastodon and Threads will see this! Federation FTW.

Making the case for richer HTML in ActivityPub@mikedev @silverpill yeah JavaScript in your stream would be problematic.
It would be interesting to figure out a safe and standard way to provide limited interactivity on the level of things like polls. Farcaster seems to be experimenting with ideas like this though i have not looked at it closely.

Making the case for richer HTML in ActivityPub@julian @johnonolan I’d love to learn more about this!

Making the case for richer HTML in ActivityPub@jupiter_rowland For the record my perception of the fediverse is that it is the open web of all people, content, apps, services and websites that have federated or bridged with ActivityPub.

If you’re at all interested in the future of how people could discover, enjoy and pay for great content in the #fediverse and the broader web, this episode of #DotSocial is for you.If you’re at all interested in the future of how people could discover, enjoy and pay for great content in the #fediverse and the broader web, this episode of #DotSocial is for you.
Here @johnonolan and I go deep on the product, technical and business model mechanics that will ultimately support a more sustainable, social web thanks to Ghost’s upcoming full integration of #ActivityPub.

The slow but steady growth of “fediverse” users, with a corresponding decrease in active users, tells me there’s a lot of curiosity and experimentation bringing people here, but not nearly enough benefits or satisfaction that keep them here. If we can ...@shanesemler @[email protected] @shoq that’s right. There will not be just one algorithm. This is a huge flaw in social media today. I think there will be many algos developed by many devs and users will be given the choice to use any or none as they wish. I also think it will be important for these algos to be transparent and fully controllable, unlike today’s walled garden approach.

I made a slide to communicate the power and benefit of decentralizing walled gardens via open standards. Feel free to use this if helpful.I made a slide to communicate the power and benefit of decentralizing walled gardens via open standards. Feel free to use this if helpful.

If we can ...@PhoenixGee @[email protected] @shoq There is a huge amount of amazing content and people on the fediverse with more happening every day. It’s just super hard to discover and benefit from it all with today’s user experiences.
Discovery and ease of use for non-technical users is crucial to changing this. Fortunately many devs know this and some great innovation is on the way. Algos and search are important but I don’t think we will want to apply those the same way the walled gardens have. We need an entirely new design for social media.
I personally believe we are on the threshold of the fediverse looking and feeling fundamentally better for non-technical people this year. And I think this will happen by embracing the ideals of the fediverse in the design process to craft entirely new user experiences that go far beyond anything the existing walled gardens have ever done before.

Happy #NewstodonFriday!@Susan_Larson_TN @FlipboardCS Hi Susan I just came across your post. Has this been resolved?

Hey @bloomberg, you’re not doing your Mastodon click-rate any favors with this kind of preview card…. This is the headline on every Bloomberg preview here.@steve Thanks for the heads up. + @FlipboardCS

Maven, a new social network backed by OpenAI's Sam Altman, found itself in a controversy today when it imported a huge amount of posts and profiles from the fediverse, and then ran AI analysis to alter the content.https://wedistribute.org/2024/06/maven...@wedistributemedia great reporting on this today. Thank you.

Huge relief to see today’s ruling in Florida. (That moral arc bends toward justice if and when we bend it.)@kissane @Shanmonster So well said.

Lately I’ve found myself opting to use my new iPad Pro instead of my MacBook Air.Lately I’ve found myself opting to use my new iPad Pro instead of my MacBook Air. I have to say it’s been a real pleasure. The OLED iPad screen is absolutely amazing and the Magic Keyboard is super functional. Now that the front facing camera has been moved to the side it’s easy to do video calls. The battery life is really good and being able to just pick up the screen and walk around the room with it while zooming into product designs in Figma is *awesome*. Excited to see how the iPad OS will evolve tomorrow.

Well, I got my first white supremacist reply from the fediverse after posting an article about Elon from Flipboard.@Properganda @mike No definitely don’t take my opinions for fact. My observation is that this particular instance owner posts about killing politicians, denies the holocaust and is fanning hate speech and promoting conspiracy theories among his users. I do not want this person or the people on his instance harassing the people on the Flipboard instance. Simple as that. Everyone is free to make their own decision. That’s the beauty of the fediverse.
