@inthehands Yup! I had the original iphone. It was very easy to understand, I had moved to it from a WinCE mobile device.

(whispers: the original iPhone was in many ways a superior user experience) https://vmst.io/@jalefkowit/113162083054623081@inthehands My mom has a iphone, and I use android. When she asks me for help I have to search for answers because the interface is filled with non-obvious actions.
The fact that both android, and ios do things in such different ways also doesn't help anybody.

One really easy way to tell if an organization is going to embrace enshittification in its products is to see if everyone in a decision-making position did a stint working at Facebook after they enabled a genocide.@anildash @Greengordon it may be true for a company like Apple (I don't know, never worked there). But every VC funded startup I worked at died when the engineering culture converted to a marketing culture.

I genuinely don't understand how a few dozen RPS from fedi server autofetch can bring down folks' websites@noracodes its a skill / knowledge issue. I blame containers. I think most people today go as deep as "I installed the nginx docker I'm good".

Here's an example of a feature request that the fediverse could give me but corporate social media probably never will.@polotek @b0rk Its a interesting problem that seems incredibly ignored! I just looked and I can't even find a list of accounts that I've blocked. Surely that's a DB lookup away, but wheres the interface?
Feels like something would be in the 'follows and followers' section of my profile.
eg "muted" or "blocked" could be part of "account status" or something else I dunno.

Some fantastic news in Mastodon development land that nobody besides me probably cares about is that we're finally dropping all the never-really-used E2EE code, in favour of the SWICG E2EE Taskforce's work & other projects.@thisismissem I still greatly appreciate your efforts, even if they were minimal!

@letsbekind2 Mozilla trying to insulate themselves from their community because they know the community they've built doesn't approve of the things they want. The people who only really support them or use their products, because it's well known that m...@Draconic_NEO @letsbekind2 @mozilla Exactly!
We Firefox users are literally <4% of the users on most of these sites. Who do they think they are going to win over? What is their overall plan? They're clearly high as fuck on some silicon valley bullshit.

Venn diagram of what indie tech people think Mozilla wants to be/should be and what Moz actually wants to be: OO@lmorchard @kissane I don't know. I've talked to some moz devs on 'the orange site' and its clear they are ex-Google, or drinking the Koolaid in hopes that they'll get to work on Chrome some day.
I love the ideals around why Mozilla was formed. I absolutely hate everything about the organization as it exists today. Its clear that whatever paper those ideals were written on was used as a napkin and disposed of.
I still use Firefox, but I just loathe the BS coming down the pipeline.

When somebody who has the power of 'op of irc channel' says "please keep the conversation about _foo_" and kills the entire conversation. When somebody who has the power of 'op of irc channel' says "please keep the conversation about _foo_" and kills the entire conversation.
The channel was dead. Nobody had said a word for 8 hours. Somebody comes in and asks a question. The question involves a few things. Multiple people chime in, and the conversation goes a little off topic but still within the realm.
The 'op' says their thing. Soon after the person who woke us all up leaves. The tumbleweeds return.
A job well done 'op'.
