@danderson The "nominal" is because Pytes recommends 90% discharge. Will Prause recommends 100% discharge and says you'll hit calendar life limits before discharge limits even in a daily solar cycle situation. But I decided I want the warranty.

@danderson I have 40kWh nominal (36 actual) LiFePO4 storage and a large portable tri-fuel inverter generator I can plug in for an extended outage. I'm using a single Sol-Ark for the inverter, though I was annoyed to learn that they won't let you update firmware yourself but instead insist on logging into your inverter over the Internet to do the update themselves. As a result, if I had it to do over, I'd say least consider an EG4. I already had an essential loads breakout from my 20+ year old broken Generac junk generator, so I grafted into that.

I have Pytes batteries. That's been a roller coaster. I like a lot of the features. The pack has gone into alarm and after some investigation Pytes said it's the BMS board on one of the batteries and has sent me a replacement which hasn't arrived yet. So I'll know more soon. They are relatively inexpensive as these things go.

My wife and I are buying a used Icom IC-7300 from a local ham. This leaves me with antenna and power supply to source.

For power, I can run it from the LiFePO4 I got for my mobile rig (to make it easy to move between vehicles) temporarily, and if I take it mobile, but I'm also looking at AC/DC power supplies. I vaguely assume I don't want to just throw some ferrites on a meanwell switching power supply that I happen to have sitting around to block common mode noise, but want something designed for #AmateurRadio use. At the same time, I'm not planning to buy a hungry linear power supply out of the gate. Maybe someday if I get truly obsessed.

I was looking at 30A 12V nominal switching power supplies in the $75-90 range. Is there anything in particular I should pay attention to?

@danderson Yeah, "transportable" fits within my definition. "Could reasonably be packaged to bring to an emcomm/auxcomm site" was the kind of thing I was thinking of. The 1C 20Ah 12V battery I bought would probably work fine for it.

I've been looking at the Icom ic-7300 as a flexible HF radio that is sufficiently portable to carry around to activate away from home. I'd like to do HF data and voice. I like the idea of direct digital and the waterfall display, and good computer interfacing. Are there other entry-level HF radios in that price range that this brand new ham should consider? #AmateurRadio

@linux_mclinuxface @dalias You actually want lower current during sensorless homing to avoid going "bang". Tuning for sensorless homing is turning current down as low as you can still reliably home. And then you set current differently for running than for homing. (I've set this up with both Marlin and Klipper.)

I think it's just too fast for the quiet stepper driver modes.
